PLEASE READ NARRATIVE--- I thought this was interesting. This is a gray fox that has evaded interacting with three coyotes. The fox was moving pretty quickly so the camera only caught his hind quarters. This was enough time to identify the gray fox but literally seconds behind him were three coyotes. The first coyote in the video seemed tuned in on trailing the fox but chose to go to the right at this fork in the trail while the fox went left. The second & third coyotes seemed to just be following the lead coyote. In any case, I thought is was an interesting thing to catch on camera. Predators, like coyotes, just do what they do & fox can be on the menu as well.
Gray fox weigh in at about 10-15 pounds (3-7 kg) while the coyotes generally weigh 30-35 pound (14-18 kg) so the fox would be fair game.
I have no doubt this fox got away … this time. He's entering a very rough boulder strewn area that offer countless hiding places from coyotes.
